DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) is the medical imaging standard. DICOM-compliant medical displays are calibrated to specific brightness and contrast curves required for clinical diagnostic reading of medical images (X-rays, CT scans, MRIs, mammograms). The compliance is required for diagnostic radiology displays per FDA and medical regulatory requirements.
